Dimension Inx is a biomaterials platform. We design and develop therapeutic products that restore tissue and organ function.

We work shoulder-to-shoulder with biotech and medical device partners to help solve their most challenging materials problems.

 
 
 

Our interdisciplinary team has deep expertise across materials, tissue, and biomedical engineering as well as advanced manufacturing and product development.  

Our approach to designing and building regenerative microenvironments was developed at Northwestern University with 10+ years of collaboration. We pride ourselves in catalyzing step function changes in regenerative medicine, not incremental improvements over existing technology.

 Meet Our Team

  • Co-Founder & CEO

    Caralynn is passionate about building teams and organizations that harness technology to drive transformational change and improve the quality of people’s lives. Previously as the co-founder and CEO of UI LABS, a first-of-its-kind technology organization focused on the digital future of industries, she built the organization from concept in late 2011 through launch in 2014, raising $200M+ in investment and ultimately spinning out two business units as independent entities (MxD Digital Manufacturing Institute and City Tech Collaborative) in 2019. After starting her first company while a joint M.D./MBA student at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Caralynn spent her early career in venture capital and corporate finance, primarily focused on technology-based university spin-outs. She earned her B.S. with honors from Northwestern University.

 
  • VP, Strategic Growth

    Cole enthusiastically supports the translation of novel science into meaningful commercial and societal impact. He has held roles in the academic, corporate, and non-profit sectors, namely at the University of Chicago, Baxter, and P33, that all shared a focus on early-stage technology commercialization and open innovation. He enjoys leveraging his network and experiences in corporate innovation, intellectual property management, and new venture strategy to help early deep tech startups increase their likelihood of success. Cole earned a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the University of Michigan, an MS in Biomedical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, and a BSE in Biomedical Engineering from Tulane University. He also recently completed an MBA at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

 
  • Senior Product Manager

    Thomas enjoys collaborating with clinicians and engineers to drive meaningful healthcare innovations that address unmet clinical needs and improve the quality of life of others. He has held roles in new product development, product management, and marketing at established medical device companies including C.R. Bard, GE Healthcare, and Medtronic where he supported the commercialization of products ranging from vascular access devices to advanced surgical instruments. Thomas attended the University of Utah where he earned an MBA, MS in Mechanical Engineering, and BS in Materials Science and Engineering.

 
  • People Operations Manager

    Melissa believes in supporting mission-driven companies that are at the cornerstone of entrepreneurship and innovation. She has cultivated a career being a right-hand to leadership at early and growth-stage technology start-ups across a diverse range of industries. Melissa has focused on bringing cross-functional administrative and operational excellence to each organization by strategically building processes and efficiencies from the ground up. She studied Political Science at Loyola University of Chicago with a special focus on international studies.

 
  • Project Engineer

    Sarah is advancing the biotechnology industry with innovation, teamwork, and integrity. She has a robust knowledge of cell and tissue culture that she uses to create novel solutions for patients. Sarah previously worked at Novartis Gene Therapies as an Upstream Bioprocess Engineer and is a graduate of Illinois Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering and a specialization in Cell and Tissue Engineering.

  • Kendall strives to optimize lab efficiency with a wealth of experience in both academic and industrial settings. With a background in Coatings, Petro Lube, and specialty chemical industries, he brings a high level of knowledge to maintaining labs while working in fast-paced individual or team-based environments. As a quality control chemist, Kendall has honed his skills in both academic and industrial lab settings, ensuring that labs run smoothly and efficiently. Kendall holds a B.S. in Chemistry from Governor State University, cementing his expertise in the field.

  • Co-founder, Head of R&D and Chief Science Officer

    Ramille is driven to develop and translate new innovative biomaterials and devices that can make a significant impact in healthcare and enhance patient quality of life. With over 20 years of experience in biomaterials and tissue engineering, she has established herself as a renowned leader in materials development for 3D-printing. Dimension Inx spun out of her lab at Northwestern University, where she spent the first nine years of her academic career as an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Materials Science and Engineering and Surgery. In addition to her role at Dimension Inx, she is a tenured Associate Professor in Bioengineering at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Ramille earned her B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at Northwestern University and her Ph.D. in MSE with a specialty in Biomaterials from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

 
  • Head of Organizational Development

    Ritu excels on providing value creation around portfolio and program management and organizational development to Dimension Inx. Ritu brings several decades of experience leading formation and operations, strategic and portfolio/program management across private and public pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.

    She currently serves as the Managing Director at Portal Innovations and is focused on portfolio company development and value creation by providing interim leadership to position and accelerated seeded companies to the next round of funding. She has a proven track record in the biopharma industry with success in leading four successful mergers & acquisitions along with new company formation and operations. Ritu has led several drug development campaigns with emphasis on strategic and therapeutic portfolio management across private and public pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. Ritu has spent over two decades in pharma drug development, of which the last six years were in biotech. Ritu holds a Bachelors in Chemical Engineering and is a certified PMP professional.

 
  • Sr. Product Manager, Musculoskeletal Products

    Wahida brings to the Dimension Inx team an impressive 20-year tenure in the Medical Device Industry, marked by her relentless commitment to patient awareness of novel treatments and medical advancements. Her extensive career has been particularly centered around the ortho-biologics sector, where she found her calling in regenerative solutions and technologies. Proving her versatility, Wahida has held multiple roles spanning product management, development, and marketing in various organizations, including industry giants like DePuy Synthes and Zimmer Biomet, and smaller start-ups. Her expertise encompasses a wide range of medical device products, such as hardware constructs for foot and ankle, trauma, and spinal procedures, as well as autologous cell therapies, allograft implants, and synthetic materials for bone replacement. A graduate of the University of Phoenix with a Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Wahida's blend of academic excellence and expansive industry experience makes her an invaluable asset to our team.

 
  • Senior Project Engineer

    Jon aims to be at the intersection of cutting-edge research and its application for impact, using his experience in both industry and academia. He has experience in the aluminum die casting industry where he refined his lean manufacturing expertise in a high production environment. He has also researched scalable graphite to graphene processing at Northwestern University in the Hersam Group. Jon has earned a B.S. in material science and engineering at Michigan State University and a M.S. in the same discipline at Northwestern University.

 
  • QA/RA Manager

    David is a seasoned and dedicated Quality Assurance leader with a strong background in regulatory support, boasting experience at institutions such as Kedrion Biopharma, SUNY Downstate, and 3DBio Therapeutics. At 3DBio, David played a pivotal role in shaping intricate, compliance-driven strategies for the world's first clinical-stage regenerative medicine company specializing in custom-engineered 3D-bioprinted implants. His dedication to addressing complex medical challenges and ensuring regulatory excellence makes him a standout figure in the field, exemplifying his commitment to advancing the frontiers of regenerative medicine and biotechnology. David earned his BS in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Michigan.

  • Office Coordinator

    Hanna strives to share, grow, and empathize with those around her. She has orchestrated small and large-scale events leading teams behind the scenes in music, theatre, and fine dining industries. She finds the most passionate work in a collaborative environment. Hanna is enthusiastic about identifying soft points in systems and molding new pathways towards a more efficient environment. She studied Costume Design at Southern Oregon University which cultivated her creativity and teamwork laying a strong foundation for her versatile skill set.

  • SVP, Manufacturing and Quality Operations

    Larry thrives on bringing innovative, high quality medical devices through development and manufacturing to commercialization. With over 30 years experience in the medical device and pharmaceutical industry, including companies such as PARI, Cordis, and Windtree, he has helped bring numerous products to market while often simultaneously leading organizational quality system compliance. Larry believes that creative problem solving and perseverance can lead diverse teams to achieve outstanding results. Larry completed his MBA and MS in Industrial Engineering from the University of Miami and a BS in Chemical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He is certified as a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt.

 
  • Austin’s mission is to build and scale innovative companies to accelerate the commercialization of breakthrough products that address major unmet medical needs. With a strong foundation in organizational leadership, process design, and program management, Austin has successfully contributed to the commercialization of novel products including a mRNA-based prostate cancer test. In external consulting roles with various life sciences clients, she has led teams to deliver meaningful business transformation projects with cross-functional impact in areas including Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and R&D. Austin earned her MBA with honors from the University of Notre Dame, and a BA in Biology from Gustavus Adolphus College.

 
  • Lead Project Engineer

    Matt is an ambitious, results-oriented research scientist and engineer committed to advancing biotechnology through innovation and strategic thinking. Matt has developed an extensive background in biomaterials, 3D printing, and tissue engineering over his decade in scientific research. Through his strengths in leadership, communication, and collaborative problem solving, Matt has translated benchtop research ideas into novel devices and therapeutics for regenerative medicine. Matt earned both his Ph.D. and B.S.E. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Iowa. He also completed a Leadership Certificate through the University of Iowa MBA Program and was the recipient of a NIH F31 Individual Fellowship Award for his work dedicated to enhancing bone regeneration via novel 3D-printable biomaterial scaffolds.

 
  • Project Engineer

    Carolina is enthusiastic about making an impact on patients’ lives through the innovation and development of medical technologies. She has previous industry experience in new product development of medical devices, and she also served as a validation engineer in pharma. Carolina earned her B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Northwestern University, where she spent time in the Ameer group on regenerative biomaterials and immunoengineering research.

 
  • Quality Assurance Engineer

    Busayo combines her technical skillset with her passion for impacting the lives of patients, allowing her to focus on helping advance the biotechnology industry. She possesses a high mechanical aptitude accompanied with hands-on technical experience. Busayo previously worked at Structure Designs Inc. as a CAD Engineer and most recently at Baxter Healthcare on their R&D Medication Delivery team, specializing in medical pumps. Busayo graduated from the University of Toledo with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering/Technology.

  • SVP, Business Development

    Bart is a BD professional and scientist passionate about bringing cutting edge therapeutics to patients. He leads BD efforts to advance Dimension’s products to patients.

    Bart has successfully executed partnerships over 15 years in large and small companies. He most recently served as Senior Director, M&A and BD, at Horizon Therapeutics (now Amgen). Previously, he led BD and Business Operations at Viela Bio, an AstraZeneca spin-out that IPO’d, launched a product, and was acquired. Before Viela, Bart led BD efforts to build AstraZeneca’s immune-oncology portfolio.

    Bart earned his Ph.D. in Molecular Biophysics from the University of Toronto. He started his career as a scientist at Amorfix Life Sciences, a neurodegeneration company, and moved into strategy and BD after receiving his MBA from MIT.

 
  • Director of Operations

    Javed values relationships, collaboration, and working with cross functional teams to make a positive impact and to ensure their success. He has held various roles in Manufacturing and Quality Operations in large pharmaceutical companies, eventually transitioning his expertise to the start-up realm to improve facility management operations and enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve overall operations. Javed earned his MBA from St. Mary’s College of California, and a B.A. in Finance from California State University, Sacramento.

 
  • Senior Project Engineer

    Regeant is driven by the potential of tissue therapeutics to revolutionize human health. He has nearly 10 years of engineering research experience in microfluidics, bioprinting, and micropatterning. With this robust skillset, Reagent developed innovative stem cell engineering techniques and 3D tissue models. His contributions extend to publications in esteemed journals, and he has presented findings at national and international conferences. A mentor and educator, Regeant has trained fellow researchers and developed laboratory modules for undergraduate courses. Regeant earned his B.A. in Biology at Hiram College and his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

 
  • Research Associate

    Sofia is driven by the inherent discovery and innovation of the biotechnology industry. She uses her extensive experience in cell and tissue culture to create novel solutions. She has previously worked in both academia and industry in topics ranging from DHA stability and metabolism, zeolite synthesis, and tissue remodeling. Sofia earned a B.S. in Molecular and Cellular Biology with a minor in Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

 
  • Manufacturing Technician

    Kirstin's dedication to helping patients combined with her interest in materials influenced her to return to Dimension Inx after a summer internship. Her organizational skills and attention to detail drive her to manufacture high-quality, life-enhancing medical devices. She graduated with a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Kirstin is excited to emerge into the biotechnology and regenerative medicine field.

  • Director

    Rima is a Partner at KdT Ventures, where she invests in and partners with early stage scientific founders engineering the world at the molecular level. Prior to joining KdT, she was an associate principal at the Fannin Innovation Studio, a venture creation firm, where she directed the early stage development of a number of therapeutic and medical device assets and led clinical trial design for Pulmotect, Inc. She is a trained physician scientist whose scientific focus has been on the intersection of bioengineering and neuroscience.

  • Director

    Amy is highly motivated to integrate complex technologies into real-world environments to improve the quality of life for patients. She is the Chief Investment Officer of Satori Neuro, a stage-agnostic fund focused on mental health and neurotechnology. Amy is also a Venture Partner at Prime Movers Lab, where she previously served as General Partner leading the fund’s life sciences investments. She was previously Chief Scientific Officer of Optios, Chief Technology Officer of Cubic Global Defense, and a program manager at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Amy is a Founding Member of the Loomis Innovation Council at the Stimson Center in Washington, D.C., and a Guest Lecturer for Singularity University.

    Paul brings an expert perspective on platform growth opportunities from a 35-year career leading multiple global biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies. He is a serial entrepreneur and inventor with experience spanning scientific research, product development, and transformational business transactions. Paul has served as Chief Executive Officer of Obsidian Therapeutics, Sigilon Therapeutics (NASDAQ:SGTX), Ocata Therapeutics (acquired by Astellas), Antares Pharma (acquired by Halozyme), and Topigen Pharmaceuticals. He currently serves on the Boards of Combined Therapeutics, Kytopen, Vericel Corporation (NASDAQ: VCEL), and Cynata Therapeutics (ASX: CYP), and is a founder and Director of Avenge Bio. He received his B.Pharm from University College London and his Ph.D. in pharmaceutical sciences from the University of Nottingham.

    Ayush is a strong advocate for the practical application of groundbreaking scientific discoveries, with a passion and expertise for delivering commercial and societal impact. Ayush is a Vice President at Revolution’s Rise of the Rest Seed Fund, where he invests in entrepreneurs building outside of the traditional tech hubs. He has made major investments into companies across digital health, medtech, women’s health, and more. Prior to that, Ayush designed, developed, and launched 3 breakthrough, life-saving implants to treat brain aneurysms and peripheral vascular disease, which now collectively generate $300M+ in global revenues. Ayush also served as the Co-President of Minds Matter San Francisco, an education non-profit serving over 100 low income high school students, where he raised $1M+ while leading the organization’s 350 volunteers.

Dr. Jakus has BS, MS, and Ph.D. degrees in Materials Engineering and a MS degree in Biomedical Engineering. He serves a biofabrication SME to numerous organizations, is active in standards development, and participates as an Executive-In-Residence for numerous organizations. He is deeply passionate about mentoring young scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs and expanding this new convergent therapeutic industry.

    Travis is passionate about medical innovation and improving the care of critically ill patients. A board-certified physician in Critical Care, Neurocritical Care, and Emergency Medicine, he graduated from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he was selected to join the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He then pursued his residency in Emergency Medicine at Boston Medical Center, where he also served as a chief resident. Subsequently, he completed a fellowship in Critical Care Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Along with his medical expertise, Travis is an entrepreneur and life science venture capitalist. He is the co-founder and Chief Medical Officer of Bio 54, a clinical-stage biotech start-up located in Chapel Hill, NC and a Principal at Solas BioVentures, a life science Venture Capital firm.

  • Dianne is a seasoned executive with 25 years of experience building and leading medical device companies. She was the Founder and former CEO of Orteq Ltd., which develops advanced biodegradable medical devices for orthopedic and sports injuries. Previously, she served as President of three successive Baxter International divisions and head of PneumRx, which was acquired by BTG PLC. Dianne has been a board director for several medical technology companies in the U.S. and Europe.

  • Andy has spent his entire career focused on developing and expanding the medical applications of additive manufacturing. He was the Founder and President of Medical Modeling Inc., a medical device-focused 3D-printing service bureau acquired by 3D Systems in 2014. He is currently adjunct faculty in the Department of Radiology at the University of Cincinnati, in the leadership of the RSNA Special Interest Group on 3D Printing, and advisor and board member to a number of enterprises in the healthcare sector.

  • Chris serves as a strategic advisor to the leadership team providing his valuable insights on biotechnology business development, corporate development, M&A and financial advisory. He is a highly accomplished business executive with over 25 years of experience across multiple industries. Chris currently serves as the CEO of Phoenix Biotech Acquisition Corp. and previously he was managing director and head of Locust Walk’s biopharma where he has led multiple transactions for emerging life sciences companies. Prior to Locust Walk, Chris was a managing director at InterWest Partners, a venture capital fund. There, he served on the boards of KAI Pharmaceuticals (acquired by Amgen) as the lead director, Biomimetic Therapeutics, Inc. (acquired by Wright Medical Technologies), Invuity (acquired by Stryker) and Xenon Pharmaceuticals. He graduated with an MBA from Kellogg School of Management in 1998 and has since held various executive roles in healthcare, technology, and financial services. Chris is widely recognized for his strategic leadership and his ability to drive growth and innovation.

  • Derek is Chief of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Chief of Dentistry, and Director of Craniofacial Surgery at the Yale School of Medicine. He is a Board Certified Plastic and Reconstructive surgeon, specializing in cleft, craniofacial, and maxillofacial surgery. His research encompasses tissue engineering and regeneration, distraction osteogenesis, and 3D analysis and planning. Derek obtained his M.D. from Harvard Medical School and his D.M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, both with honors. He completed post-doctoral training at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Johns Hopkins Hospital, and Massachusetts General Hospital.

  • Doris is a pioneer in cardiovascular regenerative medicine, credited with a number of important scientific breakthroughs related to cell and gene therapy, stem cell biology, and tissue engineering. She has held appointments at Duke University Medical Center, University of Minnesota Medical School, Texas Heart Institute, Texas A&M University, and Rice University. Doris is also an accomplished entrepreneur and Co-founder of MiroMatrix Medical (Nasdaq: MIRO).
