Position Overview
The Project Engineer - Materials will play a key role in advancing Dimension Inx’s core platform technology and will work closely with the R&D and product development teams to design, iterate, test, and produce materials for novel therapeutic products to improve patient lives. The ideal candidate is a technically focused engineer with a background in materials science or biomaterials, and thrives in a rapidly changing, fast-paced environment, and has experience working on multiple and varied projects simultaneously. The Project Engineer will report directly to the Lead Project Engineer. This role will contribute to the progression of collaborative early-stage R&D projects, the testing and development of new biomaterial and biological products, as well as various new product development projects.
Key Responsibilities
Conceptual and prototype development of new polymer-based biomaterials to be combined with cells/tissue for various clinical applications
Creation of 3D models in CAD and use of 3D-printing software to produce scaffolds for various R&D projects
Formulation of inks for 3D-printing and post-processing of 3D-printing structures, including waste management
Materials characterization and analysis to enable modification and improvements to Dimension Inx’s materials platform technology
Relevant physical benchtop testing (mechanical testing, SEM, viscometry, rheology)
Design and execution of experimental studies for biomaterials and scaffold designs
Collection and analysis of technical data, along with recommendations to advance project development forward
Preparation of technical reports, presentations, and data summaries to support project development
Communication with third-party vendors for external material analysis and characterization
Support transfer of R&D projects into GMP-level manufacturable products
Work closely across internal departments to evaluate and progress new technologies through the product development process
Development and maintenance of technical process protocols and SOPs, ensuring compliance with internal quality systems
Maintenance of lab equipment, materials inventory, and sourcing of necessary supplies
Position Requirements
Bachelor’s degree with 1 – 3 years of experience or Master’s degree with 0 – 1 years of experience (may be internship/co-op) in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering or biological field
2+ years of hands-on laboratory experience in academia or industry, comfortable handling volatile chemicals
Familiarity with CAD modeling and experience in experimental design for materials
Ability to work independently and across different teams on several projects at a given time
Excellent interpersonal skills, with proficiencies in oral and written communication and presentation of technical information to broad audiences
Ability to maintain compliance with quality management systems and controls, specifically ISO 13485 and FDA 21 CFR 820 requirements
Preferred (plus) qualifications:
Prior experience (e.g., internship/co-op) working in a MedTech or Pharma/Biotech product-focused organization on projects related to new product development from early-stage R&D through production
Familiarity with extrusion-based 3D-printing/additive manufacturing technologies is a plus
Experience with bioresorbable polymers, polymer surface characterization, computational modeling and design of tissue engineered scaffolds is a plus
Experience with sterile/aseptic handling of materials is a plus
Exposure to project management and experience in developing products through a stage gate process or similar project milestone management system is a plus
Salary Range
The base salary range for this position is expected to be between $65,000 to $85,000. Individual compensation offered within this range is based on multiple factors, including but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, education and skills. Dimension Inx reserves the right to modify this salary range in the future.
This position is also eligible for an annual performance bonus, as well as option grants. Dimension Inx offers a comprehensive benefits package including unlimited PTO, 401(k) matching, and competitive medical/dental/vision insurance options.
